Officers of the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a 30-year-old woman, Maureen Eburo, before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly bathing her neighbour, Mrs Afusatu Adeleke with hot groundnut oil.

The accused is standing a one count charge of inflicting grievous harm before Magistrate, B.A. Sonuga.
Cpl. Bosede Adegeshin, the police prosecutor told the court that Eburo, and Adeleke, both resides at No. 5, Bode Elewuro Street, Igbogbo Ikorodu, Lagos, and were sharing kitchen when she committed the offence on May 21.
The prosecutor explained that the the crime occurred following an argument that ensued when the accused came to the kitchen to spray insecticide while the neighbour was frying plantain.
"The complainant warned her to stop spraying the insecticide because it could be poisonous to her food" the prosecutor said. "Eburo carried the frying pan filled with hot groundnut oil and poured it on Adeleke".
Adegeshin informed the court that the offence was contrary to Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate granted her bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Sonuga ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant while the other should be a manager at a reputable commercial bank within the state, and that the sureties must also produce evidence of payment of five years tax.
The magistrate adjourned the case t0 June 26 for hearing.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that if the accused is found guilty, she risks spending seven years imprisonment as prescribed by Section 243.
