A 75-year-old man named Mr Fashola Fakorede, has begged a customary court in Igando, Lagos State to dissolve his marriage to his 49-year-old wife, Funke Fakorede because she has beats him constantly.
Mr Fakorede told the court that his wife beats him everyday, inflicting injuries on him.
He said his wife no longer took care of him, she goes out and comes back as she pleases without his permission, adding that his daughter is taking after her as she comes home with different men and her mother doesn't caution her.
"My wife wants to kill me. She beats me everyday. She beats me if I ask for food or anything at all. All the scars on my body are as a result of her beatings.
She can go out for days and if I asked where she had been, she would hit me with any weapon she can lay her hands on at that moment," he lamented.
He begged the court to save his life as he didn't want to die now, asking for the marriage to be dissolved because he no longer loved his wife and was tired of her beatings which often made him ill.
His wife, Funke, however denied the allegations, accusing her husband of failing to send their children to secondary school. "They all stopped at the primary level," she said.
Speaking to the court, the mother of three denied beating her husband, saying she has always taken very good care of him, despite his irresponsible behaviour.
She added that she still loved her husband and begged the court not to grant his wish.
