Once again, it has been proven to the world that the power of social media can not be under estimated when a single Hashtag BingBackOurGirls campaign which started on Twitter has now gained Nigeria the needed attention of the world to the deadly activities of the Boko Haram sect.
But the question is? Who started the #BringBackGirls tag on Twitter? In what seems to be surprise to many Nigerians, a Los Angeles Film maker, Ramaa Mosley, is taking the credit for the viral Twitter Campaign. In a recent TV interview in which she appeared, Mosley claims she tweeted the #BringBackOurGirls first. She even went as far as including this claim on her Wikipedia Profile.
She claims she was driving a car when she heard the news, ran home and started Tweeting
This is what she said in ABC Interview
“I started weeping and I raced home, I looked on the Internet and I found some news in Africa that confirmed it, but couldn’t find anything else in the United States” says Mosley
But Mosley’s claim may just be false as a Nigerian Corporate Lawyer, Ibrahim M. Abdullahi (Abu_Aaid) is reported to in fact be the first to tweet the hashtag when he engage the former Minister of Education Obiageli Ezekwesil in his tweet. He got re-tweeted by her and the campaign started gaining grounds. This was made known by social media tracking tools,
Now who do you think truly started the #BringBackOurGirls which has now hit over 1 Million Tweets
