Governor Oshiomhole
Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has urged Nigerians to acknowledge the fact that our country is plagued by terrorism and called upon the nation to unite in the face of common enemy.
The governor briefed the journalists in the Presidential Villa, in Abuja, after he attended a closed-door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan.
He stressed the need for all Nigerians to stop playing the "blame game" as far as the security issue is concerned. Only national interest should be regarded, not that of any party, or economic or commercial interests. Nigerians could play politics, governor Oshiomhole said, only after Nigeria is properly secured.
He advised Nigerians to "wake up" to the reality that terrorists are in the country. The terrorists, Oshiomhole noted, do not differentiate their victims by their age, region or religion. Nigerians should work together, speak as a united nation to help the Federal Government fight terrorism.
We have no other country, Oshiomhole maintained and urged the Nigerian media to hold national interest a priority when reporting: there would be no newspapers readers when there is no country.
In the recent month, Nigeria has been targeted by Boko Haram terrorists. The sect have claimed responsibility both for the deadly blast in Abuja that took lives of about 80 people, and for the kidnap of over 200 girls from a Chibok school in Borno State. Also, hundreds of Nigerians were killed in various towns and villages of Borno State during attacks by the terrorists.
