The son of a renowned professor in Kogi State University, Rumba Menebe, was on Thursday shot dead by police officers during a foiled robbery operation at Ayingba area of the state.

Sai’du Madawaki, the State Commissioner of Police, made this known to journalists while parading the other suspects. 
He alleged that deceased and his gang were suspected cultist, adding that on the said day, they went to rob an occupant of a white house phase 11 lodge in the area, when they engaged police officers in a gun battle, and the professor's son met his water low.  
The commissioner gave the names of the other suspects as: Jimoh Farouk, a 400 level student of the institution studying Mathematics, and Ugochukwu Rapheal, a 100 level student of History. 
Farouk, however, claimed that they went out that night to buy food when the tragedy occurred.  
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old Mechanical Engineering student, identified as Babatunde Obaniro, was also paraded by the commissioner for allegedly breaking into a shop with his gang to steal mobile phones.  
Madawaki said that Obaniro had confessed to the crime, saying all the suspects would soon be charged to court as soon as investigations were completed.
