Two pupils and three other people were burnt to death along the Ibadan-Ife Expressway in an accident involving two tankers laden with fuel on Friday, May 23.
The two fuel tankers were said to have collided at Asejire area on Ibadan-Ife expressway and instantly caught fire.
Six other persons who sustained varied degrees of injuries were rushed to the hospital where they are now receiving treatment.
Several buildings, shops, mechanic workshops and market stalls were completely razed by the raging fire.
According to Tajudeen Bakare, one of the victims whose whose residence was completely burnt, the tankers were attempting to overtake each other on the hill and in the process, one of them fell and spilled its contents into gutters and small stream and suddenly there was a loud bang. The next thing they saw was fire everywhere.
Confirming the incident, the unit commander of the FRSC, Egbeda, Commander Abiodun Akinlade said they got a distress call at about 7.30am, and when they got to the scene, they saw one of the tankers  had skidded off the road and burst into flames.
"It is like they were doing competition on the highway, trying to overtake each other. I also understand that a school bus was also trying to pick a child and the fallen tanker affected the bus and we lost two people there. We also lost two people from the articulated vehicle," he added.
