A student of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, was reported to have been killed by unknown gunmen at the weekend in Umungasi, Abia State.
According to residents of the community where the incident happened, the unknown gunmen, who shot the deceased, are believed to be cultists.
Investigations carried out by The Daily Sun revealed that the student, whose name could not be ascertained as at press time, was said to be a native of Ndume Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that the student was shot dead by a group of boys who accosted him on his way back from school on the fateful day.
After killing him, the assailants were said to have fled from the scene immediately.
The student was said to have been immediately rushed to the Abia State Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Aba by some students who got to the scene of the incidents moments later but the deceased was confirmed dead and the body, deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
The motive of the hoodlums could not be ascertained but there were beliefs in some quarters that it could be the handiwork of cultists
Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, when contacted confirmed the incident, adding that they are making effort to ensure that those behind the act are brought to face the music.
This latest incident is occurring just few weeks after a worker from the same polytechnic was murdered near his father’s house.
