Babangida gave the warning while speaking in Kaduna State, as a guest of honour at the presentation ceremony of two books, titled: "Fasting according to Islamic Law" and "Matsayin Azumi a Shari’ar Musulunci", at the Murtala Square.
The ex-general pointed out that politics was a game that produced winners and losers at the same time while commenting on the country's current heated political atmosphere.
The former president went ahead to clarify that it is not everybody that contested election that would emerge victorious at the polls, saying losers should learn to accept defeat with grace and prepare for another race someday.
"An overheated polity will produce nothing other than chaos and anarchy in our midst and I wish to advise politicians to be careful and responsible as they start their campaign train for 2015 contest" Babangida said. "Nigerians deserve nothing less than the dividends of democracy that will guarantee minimum comfort for better, quality life. This is what is required to take the youth off the streets, restore the confidence of the disenchanted and provide succor to the poverty-stricken masses of this country. This is what is needed to check the menace of violence perpetrated by militants and Boko Haram insurgents".
The former president, who was elated gave thanks to Allah for the opportunity to attend the event as it offered an opportunity for people to come together, noting that the emergence of young writers like Dr Aminu Ladan Sharehu was a welcome development.
The Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, in his remarks, gave thanks to Allah for making the occasion possible and applauded dignitaries for making out time to grace it.
Responding, Dr Aminu Ladan Sharehu, the Director-General and Chief Executive of National Teachers’ Institute, Kaduna, who is also the author of the books, pleaded with the Boko Haram sect to release the kidnapped school girls as a matter of urgency.
