The telephone number of the Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramallan Yero, has been recently hacked by yet-to-be found fraudsters.
The governor complained that his telephone number was cloned and some criminals used it to send some dubious text messages to several people.
He also dissociated himself from any suspicious text messages which requested funds from citizens. Yero added that such fraudsters were doing so at their own risk.
Ahmed Maiyaiki, the Director General on Media & Publicity at Kaduna Government House, made the revelation on governor’s behalf on July 3, 2014, Tuesday:
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Yero has not directly or through any third party asked people to make deposit into certain bank accounts.”
Maiyaiki urged the people to disregard messages from fraudsters and, thereby, protect themselves from losing hard-earned money.
It is not the first case when hackers get control of a high-ranked person in Nigeria.
In May 2013 the phone of the Governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan, was hacked by a DELSU student. The suspect, who failed in pharmacology and pathology course, forwarded a message, purportedly from the governor, to the Vice Chancellor, of his institution, requesting him to upgrade his scores.
